Lets start,
Kwanza kabisa tunapaswa kufahamu PRINTER ni nini?, inafanya kazi gani na vingine vingi kabisa.
PRINTER
A computer printer is a computer peripheral device that produces a hard
copy (permanent human-readable text and/or graphics, usually on paper)
from data stored in a computer connected to it. A printer is used to
print anything that you want, like pictures or documents or data. They
plug in where there is a USB slot, from there you can click print and
the document is sent to the port where your document is printed.
Pia wadau wengi waliuliza ya ya kuwa "NETWORK & LOCAL PRINTER NI KITU GANI?"
NETWORK & LOCAL PRINTER
A network printer is shared by more than one computer. A local printer is directly connected to one computer.
How to install a local printer
In this tutorial I will show you how to make your printer work with
Windows Vista. It doesn't matter if it's a brand new printer or an old
one - by the end of this tutorial you will have a working printer. In
this tutorial I will talk only about local printers. Network printers
will be covered in a separate article.
Local printers are those which you have at home/office, connected
directly to the computer on which you are working. After installing the
local printer, you can share it with other people that are in your
network. They will be able to print but will have to come to your
printer to get the pages they printed.
How to plug the printer
First, start your computer and then plug in the cables that came with
your printer. You must have at least one cable which connects the
printer to your power outlet and one which connects the printer to your
PC. After you plugged all the cables, start the printer. To start the
printer, you will either find a button that does this or it starts
automatically. When it does start, it might do a "warming-up" sound or
it might light a led so that you will know that is working.
Installing the printer
Now you have to install the appropriate drivers for your printer.
Drivers are programs that drive the communication process between
applications and devices such as your printer. If your printer is not
detected and installed automatically by Windows Vista, then you will
need to install the drivers yourself. They can be found on the site of
your printer's manufacturer or on the CD that comes with the printer. If
you do not have or cannot install the drivers, then follow this
procedure:
Click on the Start button and go to Control Panel.
In the Control Panel window, beneath Hardware and Sound, click on Printer.
In the Printers window click on Add a printer.
In the new window, select Add a local printer.
Now you have to choose the type of connection between your printer and
your PC. Choose the type from the scroll down list and click on Next.
If you are not sure what to choose, read the printer's manual. Most
modern printers use USB cables to connect to your PC. Older models may
use LPT. If the cable looks like the one shown in the picture below,
select LPT1.
Now you must go to your printer and check the name of the company that
made it (e.g. Lexmark, HP, etc) and the model name & number (e.g.
Lexmark Z52, Hp LaserJet 4250, etc). In the next window you will see two
columns. Go to the Manufacturer's column and select the name of the
company that produced your printer and in the Printers column, select
the model. Once you've found it, select it and click on the Next button.
If you cannot find your printer, insert the CD that came along with it,
click on Have Disk and Browse to your CD and then click on OK. Windows
Vista will search for drivers and try to install them. Another option is
to click on Windows Update and have Windows Vista search for drivers on
the internet.
Now you can change the printer’s name and assign it as a default printer
by checking the appropriate option. When done, click on Next.
The printer will now be installed. At the end you will receive a notification. Click on Finish and you are done.
Sasa wacha tupeane haya mawili matatu jinsi ya ku-install A NETWORK PRINTER karibu twende sawa
HOW TO INSTALL A NETWORK PRINTER
If you’re planning on buying a printer soon, you should consider buying a
network printer. Prices have come down in recent years and now that
most people have wireless networks, you can setup your network so that
you can print from anywhere in the house! It’s also great for guests
because they can connect to your wireless network and print easily, so
you’ll get lots of kudos as a host!
Here’s what you’ll need to do in order to setup the printer on your network:
1. First, connect the printer to your network by connecting one end of a
Cat 5 cable (which should have come with your printer) to your router:
And the other end into the network port of your printer. Turn your printer on and wait for it to become ready.
2. Next you’ll need to get the IP address of your printer. The IP
address is what will tell your computer where to find your printer on
the network. All network printers allow you to print a configuration
sheet which will list basic information about the printer along with the
current network configuration.
For most printers, this involves pressing the Menu button on the
printer, going to the Information option and choosing Print
Configuration. You will be looking for the TCP/IP section:
The IP Address is what you’ll need for the next steps.
3. The last step is to add the printer to your computer. Click on Start, then Printers and Faxes.
If you don’t see this in your Start Menu, you can go to Start, Control
Panel and then click on Printers and Faxes there. Click Add Printer from
the task pane on the left.
The Add Printer wizard will begin, so click Next to get started. On the
next screen you’ll be asked whether your printer is a local printer or a
network printer. These options are confusing because a network printer
is actually referring either a printer connected to another computer or a
printer on a print server. Our printer is a stand-alone printer and so
you must select Local printer attached to this computer and make sure
that you uncheck the box for automatically detecting the printer.
Click Next and you’ll be asked to select the printer port. Since our
printer is a network printer with a IP address, we need to select the
Create a new port option and choose Standard TCP/IP Port.
Click Next and you’ll get another wizard to add a TCP/IP printer port.
On the main wizard screen click Next. In the first text box, Printer
Name or IP Address, enter the IP address from the printer configuration
sheet you printer earlier.
Click Next and depending on the printer you have, you may get one more
dialog before the end of the wizard. If the network card for the printer
cannot be identified, the wizard will ask you to choose the card type.
You can leave the default of “Generic Network Card” and click Next.
Click Next and click Finish. You will then continue on with the Add
Printer wizard and you’ll need to either choose the printer from the
list of manufacturers or click Have Disk and insert your printer driver
cd in the computer.
Click Next and enter a name for your printer and click the Yes radio
button if you would like the printer to be your default printer.
Click Next and you’ll be asked whether you want to share the printer or
not. Click No because anyone else who wants to connect will be able to
do so following the same steps.
Click Next and click Yes to print a test page and make sure that the computer and printer can communicate!
Click Next and then click Finish! The new printer will appear in your Printers and Faxes screen and you’re ready to print!

How to install a network printer
In my previous explantion above l, I have shown you how to install a
local printer in Windows Vista. As promised, now I will show you how to
install a network printer. As you can see, the procedure is very
similar. The main difference consists in the fact that a network printer
is not directly attached to your PC and you will need to know details
such as: the name of the PC on which it is installed, the printer name
and/or the IP address.
Click the Start button and go to Control Panel.
In the Control Panel window, in the Hardware and Sound group, click Printer.
In the Printers window, click Add a printer.
A new window appears, where you have to select “Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer”.
Windows Vista will now search through your network for printers and will
list all the found items. Select the printer that you want to install
and click Next. If Windows Vista hasn't listed the printer that you want
to install, but you still know it exists, skip all the next steps and
read the 'Network Printer not found' section.
In this next window you will see the name of the printer that will be
installed. If you want, you can rename it, so that you can identify it
much easier. When done, click Next.
Windows Vista will now install your network printer. At the end you will receive a notification. Click Finish and you are done.
Network Printer not found
If Windows Vista hasn't found the printer your were looking for, then click 'The printer that I want isn't listed'.
Here you have three options: browse for a printer, select a shared
printer by name and add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname.
If you select the first option (browse for a printer) and click Next,
Windows Vista will display all the computers that are currently running.
Select the one that is connected to the printer you want to install and
then select the printer. Then click Next until the end of the wizard.
When you select the second option (select a shared printer by name),
type "\\", then the name of the computer where the printer is installed
followed by "\" and the printer name. The text you type should be like
this: "\\PCName\PrinterName". Alternatively, you can click the Browse
button and select the computer and printer just like when choosing the
first option described above. When finished, click Next and follow the
remaining steps shown by the wizard.
The third option (add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname) is
mostly used in large networks that have dedicated network printers.
These printers are directly connected to a network and have their own IP
address. To use this option you need to know the IP address of the
printer. If you don't know it, contact the network administrator.
If you have this information, select the third option and click Next. In
the next window type the printer's hostname or IP address and then the
port (if needed). When done, click Next.
In the next window you can change the printer's name and choose if you
want it set as your default printer. After you click on Next, you will
be told that your printer has been found. Click on Finish and you are
done.
How to share a printer with other computers from your network
In this short explanation I will show you how to share your local
printer with other computers from your network. As you will see, the
procedure that needs to be followed is very simple and easy to
understand.
Click on Start and then on Printers. If Printers is missing from the Start Menu, then click on Control Panel.
When you are in the Control Panel window, click on the Printer link, as shown below.
In the Printers window you will see all the installed printers (local
and network printers). Right-click on the local printer you want to
share with others and select Sharing. If this option is missing, click
on Properties.
In the Properties window, go to the Sharing tab. Here, click on 'Change
sharing options'. If UAC is enabled, you will have to click on Continue.
Now, in the Sharing tab, check the option that says 'Share this printer' and click on OK.
In the Printers window you will now see a small sharing sign near your printer.
